DEGREE PROJECT
Tea as Form
My Master thesis titled Food as Form: Exploring the Materiality of Post Consumption Food Waste in Urban Settlements, works at the intersection of design, environmental and material sciences. The aim of my thesis is to understand ways in which abundant materials around us can be reused and intertwined with the systems around us. It investigates ways in which food waste, a significant contributor to carbon emissions and can be used as a resource instead of being sent to the landfill.

I am currently working on experimental ways of turning tea waste into usable material and products by combining it with other binders and materials, integrating it with materials such as clay, and using techniques of embroidery and stitching to envision a potential use.

The process includes identifying chemical properties of tea and it’s binders, thinking about the system and environmental impact of using bio-materials to replace resource heavy and harmful materials like plastics.
